Introduction
The UK government has announced new salary thresholds for the Skilled Worker Visa, effective from 22 July 2025. These changes aim to focus the visa route on higher-skilled, graduate-level jobs. However, not every applicant is subject to the same salary requirement. Different categories apply depending on your age, qualifications, and job type.

General Salary Threshold

  • £41,700 per year or the going rate for the role, whichever is higher

  • Applies to most Skilled Worker applicants in jobs at RQF Level 6 or above

New Entrants

Certain younger applicants or those at the start of their careers may qualify under the new entrant category.

  • £33,400 per year or the going rate, whichever is higher

  • Applies if you are:

    • Under the age of 26

    • Switching from a Student Visa or Graduate Visa

    • Working towards a professional qualification

    • A postdoctoral researcher

PhD Holders

Applicants with relevant PhDs may qualify at a lower threshold.

  • £37,500 per year if your PhD is in a subject relevant to the job

  • £33,400 per year if your PhD is in a STEM subject

Health and Social Care Roles

Some health and social care jobs remain eligible at lower salary levels, recognising the UK’s need for workers in these areas.

  • £31,300 per year minimum

  • Includes roles such as nurses, care workers, and certain medical staff

Immigration Salary List (ISL) and Temporary Shortage List (TSL)

If your role appears on the ISL or TSL, you may qualify at reduced salary levels.

  • £31,300 per year or the role’s going rate, whichever is higher

  • The TSL is transitional and will end by 31 December 2026

Why Salary Thresholds Matter

The salary threshold you must meet depends on your occupation code and personal category. Applying under the wrong category or failing to meet the correct threshold can result in a refusal. Always double-check before applying.
