This leadership role oversees and optimizes all aspects of agricultural or horticultural production and operations. They are crucial for ensuring efficient, sustainable, and profitable cultivation, livestock rearing, or plant propagation, from planning to market.

Key responsibilities involve developing and implementing production plans, managing land, crops, and/or livestock, and overseeing resource allocation (e.g., labor, equipment, water, nutrients). They are instrumental in adopting sustainable practices, optimizing yields, and managing inventory and logistics for produce or products. A core function is leading and managing farm or nursery staff, ensuring adherence to safety regulations, environmental standards, and quality control throughout the production cycle.

They also collaborate with suppliers, buyers, agronomists, and industry experts to optimize practices, identify market opportunities, and manage risks. Ultimately, they are accountable for the productivity, profitability, and environmental stewardship of their agricultural or horticultural enterprise, directly contributing to food security or green industries.
