Key responsibilities involve mowing, fertilizing, irrigating, and treating turf, as well as managing drainage and topdressing. They prepare pitches, courses, or courts for events, operate specialized machinery, and conduct routine maintenance on facilities. A core function is understanding specific turf management techniques, soil science, and the requirements of the sport/activity, ensuring optimal playing conditions and environmental health.

They also collaborate with sports clubs, venue management, coaches, and event organizers to meet specific demands and schedules. Ultimately, they are accountable for the quality, safety, and presentation of the grounds under their care, directly contributing to professional sporting events and recreational enjoyment.
